❝ born and raised in a small town in rural oklahoma meant vivian led a pretty isolated life for most of her childhood. being home schooled and the only child, most of her days were spent aiding her mother in tending the farm if she wasn’t being schooled. to further pass the time, she’d read or solve puzzles; jigsaws, crosswords, anything that required her brain. baking was another, a hobby she didn’t expect to turn into her eventual part time job alongside detective work.her father was hardly at home because of his job as a private detective. most of his time was spent at his office in the city, where vivian would occasionally visit him— watching him solve cases in real time. it wasn't until she was eighteen that her father finally let her try to help him solve a case.it was a major case in los angeles, one he hadn’t taken on in awhile; a missing person and a murder, a rare occasion. he, a veteran detective, was struggling and it didn’t help that the men he was working with, weren't much help at all. naturally, he figured why not give his daughter a chance. he knew she had it, seen her solve the hardest puzzles like they were nothing, and she’d probably do a better job than professionally trained detectives.through her, he was able to see the evidence and clues he’d missed. pushing him to solve the case days later. this would spur into her dad encouraging her to give private detective work a go. said she'd make a good one because of her smarts and wits, and how easy and quickly she could solve things. he’d also touched on how her sweet nature and innocent face could be used to her own advantage.when he had time off or when he was taking less cases, he'd teach vivian everything about detective work. she even joined him on more cases for the full experience, although, she never got to be on site when all the real action happened. instead, she was seated at his desk, gathering information and evidence, background checks. the boring stuff.

vivian became an official private detective at 25, after 3 long years of working under her dad. she decided to make the big move to los angeles a couple months after solving her first case, while her parents stayed in oklahoma. she spent months to almost a year building herself a solid reputation as a reliable private detective, known for her quick thinking, sharp observation skills, and overall sweetness; deeming her the title ‘the sweetest detective.’under the impression she was simply trying to find her cilent’s supposedly missing niece, albeit she knew said niece was dead, she never expected the case to get as deep as it did. it was on the amelia case that she crossed paths with private investigator holland march and enforcer jackson healy.after the amelia ordeal, vivian continued to work with holland, becoming his ‘unofficial’ partner and gaining a spot in his and healy’s new detective agency. though, to her— it didn’t seem particularly fitting as the only woman in an agency named ‘the nice guys.’while she does choose to take on and manage cases on her own, she often finds herself enjoying cases more when she’s solving them with holland. even if she doesn’t admit it out loud. it’s his unconventional methods and constant mishaps that seemingly make cases more fun to solve and despite it all, they still do manage to close them. as their saying goes, they’ve been closing cases since 1972.
